“Word of mouth referrals are what it’s all about!” says Tim Matheoda. Whilst exhibiting at last year’s Sanctuary Cove boat show he mentioned to well known industry associate, Peter Jenkins that he had always been keen to move to Australia. The lure of a warmer climate and a vibrant, exciting boating industry had long been an attraction to him. The magnificent flora and fauna and expansive coastline teaming with marine life was also a strong draw card.
Shortly after returning home he got a call to say there was an opportunity to open an office at Soldiers Point Marina in Port Stephens. After a trip over to explore this magnificent locality and assess the business potential Tim made his plans and a big commitment. Tim’s long association with respected industry professional, Maurie Drent, led him to take up an MDBS franchise. Widespread national coverage, a comprehensive portfolio of listings, support and on-tap advice from a true expert, all combine to ensure the best of service for the client.
In addition to normal brokerage activities, MDBS Port Stephens are able to offer a spacious, clean, secure sales display area for trailer boats. This is adjacent to the marina facility and within sight of the boat launching facilities at Soldiers Point boat ramp. At this stage there are no arrangements in place for new boat dealerships – but watch this space!
ABOUT THE OWNER
Tim has been a successful boat broker for 26 years in Auckland and has been a frequent visitor to boat shows here, and has conducted several trans-Tasman boat transactions. His first new boat dealership was for ‘RANGER’ boats (hence adopting the company name ‘Ranger Marine Ltd.’) and then had a 4 year association with the NZ Riviera dealer, selling new Rivieras and high end motor yachts. Subsequent dealerships for Mustang and Princess ensued and were run alongside the brokerage.
An early professional career in the merchant navy and subsequent sales positions with multi-national computer companies led to Tim start his own marketing business, but the call of the sea was too strong. He bought a ketch for charter and shortly thereafter worked as a broker for the office that sold him the boat! He became a partner in that office and later opened on office at Westhaven Marina in Auckland. Seeing an opportunity there, Tim started a successful luxury launch hire business. Ranger Charter Boat Company was born, which he eventually sold to have more time for family.
More recently Tim has focused on larger motor yachts and passage makers. A three year association as NZ agent for ‘Explorer Marine’ (Sydney based importer for high quality ‘Marlow Explorer motor yachts) resulted in the recent sale of a 65C Model.
